Verde West Ranch

We have the right to complain, the privilege to be involved and the obligation to solve the problems. Game far outnumbers the human population in Verde West Ranch's remote corner of the world. Formally, the William Ward Ranch since 1929, this land is ideally located on the western edge of the topographically diverse Edwards Plateau. The ranch's rolling hills are blanketed with savanna made up of mesquite, mountain laurel, juniper and oak, a natural environment known for encouraging large populations of trophy whitetail. Nearby Oppenheimer Canyon provides a corridor for game traveling from the Rio Grande to the green valley surrounding the Ranch. Whitetail deer share this spectacular wilderness with javelina, turkey, dove, quail, bobcat, puma and black bear. This is one of the few remaining pristine wilderness area remaining in southwest Texas.
Verde West Ranch is just 60 minutes from Lake Amistad and Del Rio, Texas. A remote outdoor paradise covering more than 57,000 acres (most under water), Amistad offers year-round recreation. The lake is fed by three rivers - the Pecos, Devils and Rio Grande -- and offers 540 miles of shoreline populated by scores of wildlife. Shorebirds, dove, quail and migratory waterfowl including ducks and geese winter here. Whitetail, javelina, rabbit and sheep populate the surrounding hills. The park manages populations in five hunting areas. Amistad's clear waters and robust fish populations also make it an angler favorite.
From Grass Savannahs to Canyon walls Big Bucks abound. The Pecos River, one of the Rio Grande's major tributaries, flows just 30 minutes from this ranch. Its deep canyons offer a cool retreat for swimming, camping and fishing. The Pandale Store offers tubing and canoe trips on the river, as well as food and refreshments. A cool place to spend those hot afternoons in the summer. Verde West Ranch is truly an outdoor enthusiasts paradise, in a remote setting, yet with easy highway access. The ranch has been a well managed deer habitat for years, the land is beautiful; with canyons and rock outcroppings. Cool clear water is from the Edwards Trinity Aquifer.
